With energies abstract and animalistic, these ceramic sculptures are wheel-thrown and adorned with hand-built slabs in dynamic asymmetry. Accessing the terrible and sublime spirit of the primordial gods, I was driven to create a winged vessel, as if in flight: limbed, reaching, a traditional form from antiquity reborn in a time of turbulence and regeneration.
Crafting a sculpture in ceramic, I sought to cast the vessel’s snake-like skin into the third dimension, tracing movement in dramatic gestures, appendages emerging from an elusive center.
Through this work I strive to conjure a new soul from clay, sculpting a universal totem that in its form and corroded coloration signals our collective encounter with time and the elements – the body born from chaos, the skin a catalogue of the soul.
